Identify Every Fish by Photo
Mikke is the fish identifier with image recognition.
"What kind of fish is this?" As soon as you wonder, take a picture of it, upload it, and this app will identify it right away as saying, "Is this it?" It is useful not only when you go fishing or playing in and around the water, but also for a school project or summer vacation.
The identification is based on species and groups. If the species can't be identified, try again with groups. The app focuses on fish in the sea around Japan, excluding a squid group and an octopus group.
The identification accuracy is more than 70%
Identifying fish from photographs is quite difficult even for experts. Given that, Fish Search boasts a high accuracy of 70%(*1) out of 80 suggested species. Furthermore, its accuracy rises to 90%(*2) when it comes to groups. Please note that the accuracy will vary depending on the species or your way of taking photography.
Roughly, you would get three right answers out of four by species identification.
*1, *2 The numbers are based on data from an experiment involving 200 popular kinds of fish from the sea around Japan.
A tip to improve the identification accuracy
<ul>
<li>Take a picture of only one fish</li>
<li>Place the head left and take the picture from its side, except for flat fish group</li>
<li>Take a picture of the whole fish, from tail to head</li>
<li>Choose a simple background</li>
<li>Take a clear picture</li>
</ul>
A picture meeting any of the following conditions is not suitable:
<ul>
<li>There are more than 2 fish</li>
<li>There are other things besides fish, such as a person's hand</li>
<li>A long fish like an eel</li>
<li>Only the head or tail is captured</li>
<li>Only the backside of the fish is visible since it is taken from above</li>
<li>There is difficulty in distinguishing between the background and the fish</li>
</ul>
For all who love fish
This app has been developed based on the "WEB Fish Encyclopedia", which contains data on over 50,000 kinds of fish. To enhance the accuracy of the app, we leveraged creativity in the backend system.
We pride ourselves on having created one of the best fish identifiers to date. Nonetheless, it does not offer 100% accuracy due to characteristics within its system. We hope you understand this and enjoy using this app as a simple and convenient tool for identifying fish.
